Alice Wong (she/her) was a disabled activist, writer, editor, and community organizer. She was the founder of the Disability Visibility Project, an online community dedicated to creating, sharing, and amplifying disability media and culture. Alice was the editor of Disability Visibility: First-Person Stories from the Twenty-First Century, an anthology of essays by disabled people and Disability Visibility: 17 First-Person Stories for Today, an adapted version for young adults. Her debut memoir, Year of the Tiger: An Activist’s Life was published in 2022. Her latest anthology, Disability Intimacy: Essays on Love, Care, and Desire is available now. In 2024 Alice was named a MacArthur Fellow. In 2025, Alice co-partnered with Finnegan Shannon on Disabled Rage, a public art project. Alice passed away on November 14, 2025. For the last few months, we have witnessed the growing tensions of political debates in France. Ultimately, these tensions have resulted in members of the French government (notably the Minister of National Education, the Minister of Higher Education and Research, and elected members of the National Assembly) attacking members of the French scientific community who critically examine questions such as gender, race, or postcoloniality. These attacks have triggered a strong reaction on the part of the scientific community, particularly geographers. They have been condemned at the highest instances, in France and abroad, for example, by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, the Conférence des présidents d’université, le Conseil National des Universités or the International Geography Union. We at ACME stand by our French colleagues who have been at the receiving end of this vicious abuse. ...

Este dossier propone profundizar en la cuestión de la producción no alienada del espacio a través de un diálogo entre los enfoques teórico-conceptuales del urbanismo crítico europeo y latinoamericano a partir de los aportes de Lefebvre como un nexo entre ambas corrientes. Para ello se recuperan los discursos y prácticas referidos a la Producción Social del Hábitat (PSH) y los comunes urbanos mediante la indagación en experiencias de cooperativismo autogestionario de vivienda y hábitat. Pausing New Articles Unrelated to COVID-19 Pandemic-Related Issues

UPDATE MARCH 2021: While ACME is accepting new papers, we are no longer seeking Covid-specific materials. A full update is forthcoming.

ACME has decided that it is best for us to establish a rolling pause on all new submissions not related to issues amplified by, adjacent to, or instigated by COVID-19, and submissions not by junior authors who need papers to go through at this time. Given the unprecedented situation of COVID-19, we are also unsure when, exactly, we will be able to receive new work. The severity of the ongoing pandemic is immense and we, as a Collective and journal, feel like a full slowdown is needed, not only to support our editorial Collective but also to support our reviewers, who tend to reflect the disproportionately marginalized people we study. As we announce this on May Day, it is especially a time for ACME to rethink our priorities and identity, to take care in all aspects of our life and of those we love, and to enact our best way forward in support of the reproductive labor of journal work. By work that is “amplified by, adjacent to, or instigated by COVID-19,” we recognize that authors have research manuscripts that already speak to the violence and disparities seen during this pandemic.

In this time of crisis, we hope you are well and connected to those you love.

We are writing now to announce that ACME will pause accepting of most new work through April 15th. However, as an online journal with the ability to publish quickly and publicly, we will accept new work regarding COVID-19 to make sure this work can reach public audiences in a timely manner. We will not send out reviewer reminders for most publications through this period, with the exception of early career researchers who may still need feedback during this time and we will support them in all ways possible. As an all-volunteer journal, we will do our best to continue to support our authors and keep working on those papers already submitted. We are already set to continue to publish issues.
