Abstract

While a common language is necessary to communicate on an international level, it is also true that linguistic hegemonies inevitably result in asymmetric power dynamics. Against this backdrop, the special issue “Between academic wor(l)ds: Translation as Critical Practice in English, Français, and Deutsch speaking Geographies” seeks to revive the debates on the so called Anglophonic hegemony in geography and asks to which extent translation can respond to it and counter its standardizing and exclusionary effects. The editorial elaborates the idea of translation as critical practice with which the contributions of this issue are framed.
